TV Classic Vehicles Set for Silverstone Auctions’ Sale

Silverstone Auctions - Express Dairies Morris milk floatTwo classic vehicles that starred in two of Britain’s most watched TV programmes, EastEnders and Minder, are set to go under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions’ sale at the very first Restoration Show on April 12th at the NEC, Birmingham.

Offered with no reserve, the soap opera star, YLK 611G, is none other than the original EastEnders milk float that was first used back in 1985. The Express Dairies Morris float, painted in the colours of the fictional Walford depot, could be seen in many an opening scene during the early hours, rattling around Albert Square before the cameras panned off into the Fowler’s house or the Queen Vic Pub.

The float has not been charged for some time and requires a little care and attention to bring it back to its former East end glory.

Not seen in public for nearly 12 years, Arthur Daley’s 1981 Daimler Sovereign saloon from hit ITV show Minder is estimated at between £10,500 and £15,000 and presents the opportunity to own a piece of TV history.

Arthur Daley’s 1981 Daimler Sovereign The car was driven extensively by both Arthur (George Cole) and Terry (Dennis Waterman) from series four through to six of the show, as well as featuring in two Christmas specials 'Around The Corner' in 1984 and 'The Orient Express' in 1985.

According to the vendor George Cole nearly bought the classic car himself back in 1985 but it was eventually decided to give the car away in a TV Times competition.

The Portland beige paintwork is in superb order throughout and the car was subject to a sympathetic bodywork restoration in 1986 and 1987. It is now sold with a new MOT and six months tax.

Commenting on these TV icons, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, Nick Whale, said: “We’ve sold our fair share of famous vehicles in the past and it’s wonderful to be able to add these two fascinating lots to the list. This is a fantastic opportunity for collectors of television memorabilia as well as classic car fans to acquire two very special vehicles indeed.”
