Footman James Staff Support Classic Car Day

Footman James Staff Support Classic Car DayEmployees at classic car insurance brokers Footman James drove their classic cars into work today, 4 April, in support of UK National Classic Car Day.

Staff at West Midlands based company are supporting the initiative, following the announcement by BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans on his breakfast radio show on Monday 24 March.

The idea behind it is that anyone who owns a classic car should get it out for the commute to work, offering friends and colleagues a lift into the bargain, as long as they make a donation to the BBC Children in Need charity.

Chris Evans is well known for his love of classic cars. In typical style, there are no rules for National Classic Car Day!

Andy Fairchild, Footman James’ Managing Director, said: “We thoroughly support such initiatives which bring classic cars out into the public arena. Many of our employees are classic enthusiasts themselves so what better way to show them off by supporting such a fantastic initiative! Donating money to such a worthwhile charity is the icing on the cake!”

The classic cars that enjoyed the open road into Footman James’ headquarters in Cradley Heath this morning included:

  • Mable, a Rover Mini Cooper, 1.3 fuel injected. Red with a Union Jack on the roof, Mable originally sported a K plate from 1993 and is now Q714 VOJ. Stolen and recovered, Mable is much loved by her owner Paige Flavell-Wood
  • Bertie is proudly owned by Lee Fowkes; his first car, Lee has owned Bertie for 20 years. A Zenith Blue 1968 VW Beetle, it was the original number plate – LEE 511F – that attracted Lee to the car. Bertie’s plate is now UWP 130F.
  • Kermit – a Java Green Austin Mini 1000 from 1979 – is owned by Anthony Hall.

Little Classics is glad to see a company which specialises in the classic car industry having a few enthusiasts amongst its ranks. We hope to see them all out again later this month for Drive it Day on 27th April.
