Classic Legends to go Under the Hammer at Nurburgring

1937 BMW 328 Roadster

International auctioneers Coys return to the Nurburgring for the 43rd AVD Oldtimer Grand Prix with over 70 classic and sports cars going under the hammer on Saturday 8th August.

The auction will feature vehicles such as a 1937 BMW 328 Roadster (top) (estimated at €490,000 to €600,000), a 1971 LOLA T 222 ex-Jo Bonnier, Vic Elford, Peter Westbury and Mario Casoni (€370,000 to €420,000), a 1958 Jaguar XK 150 SWB Cozzi Special (below) (€100,000 to €140,000) and a 1980/81 F1 Lotus 81 ex-Mario Andretti 1980 Monaco GP with FIA papers (€325,000 to €375,000).

One of the highlights of the auction will be a 1976 ex-works Waldegard Safari Martini Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 (below), which competed in the 1977 and 2004 London to Sydney Marathons, 1979 Repco Rally and 2005 East African Safari Rally. It also entered the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2004-2015. It is estimated at €400,000 to €475,000.

Another important Porsche going under the hammer is a 1973 911 2.7 RS. This car is one of the first 500 units produced to meet the FIA's requirements for the GT Championship season that year. Considered one of Porsche's finest competition-bred road cars, this highly sought after homologation specification example with matching numbers and factory history is a rare find indeed and certainly one of the most desirable RS's in existence. It is estimated at €650,000 to €850,000.

Chris Routledge, Managing Partner at Coys, said: “With the cancellation of the Formula 1 German Grand Prix in 2015, excitement surrounds the 43rd Oldtimer. Coys auction on Saturday afternoon has become a long-standing feature at the Nurgurbring and this year we are back with the largest and most prestigious sale held to date at this event.

One of the Ferraris on offer is a 1992 F40 (below), one owner from new with only 7,881km on the clock. This outstanding original super car has been beautifully kept and is in excellent condition throughout.

Routledge said: “The F40 is one of the most sought after sports cars of a generation and represents the finest in the Italian marque's manufacturing capability to present a car for the road with racing pedigree in abundance. It is a fabulous opportunity not to be missed!”

Other important entries include a 1959 Stanguellini Formula Junior (estimated at €80,000 to €100,000), a 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS (€90,000 to €130,000), a 1972 De Tomaso Pantera (€65,000 to €85,000) and a 2013 “BRM P160” prop race car as featured in Ron Howard’s movie ‘Rush’ (€20,000 to €30,000).
