Classics Cars Confirmed For Bedford Amateur RegattaBedford Amateur Regatta’s May event celebrates 150 years of this historic sport with races throughout the day and a classic car display.

The largest single-day river regatta in the UK takes place on Saturday 10 May, on the River Great Ouse in Bedford, and announces, for the first time in its history, a show within the show: a static Classic Car Display on the Embankment, representing the glamour of vintage speed on four and two wheels at the historic competition on water.

Rolls RoyceThe combined effort and support of Bedford Town Council and the Bedford Regatta Committee have secured a first-class turnout of more than 50 classic cars, unusual vehicles and sports cars with substantial history.

Beloved British marques Allard, Morgan and Triumph are all represented, as well as Aston Martin: among several, a 1934 Aston Martin MkII Long Chassis Tourer, in the same family for the last 60 years, one of 33 surviving and winner of numerous awards – the latest being ‘Best in Show’ at the 2013 Bromley Pageant of Motoring and the ultimate accolade: Classic Car of the Year- Pre War Category.

Ford Escort MkIOf the well-known Austin Healey range, a rare 1964 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII Phase I, in original Healey Blue, fully restored in 2008, will also be on show.

American muscle cars such as the Corvette Stingray and racing machines like Ford Escort MkIs, as well as a 1938 BMW R51 motorcycle, will complete this celebration of international automotive classic design and engineering.

1938 BMW R51 motorcycleThe Bedford Amateur Regatta maintains its position in the country as one of the most popular competitions with well over 1,600 competitors from 50 different Schools, Colleges and Clubs racing over a 1,200 metre course, with races every two minutes throughout the day.

The Regatta starts at 8.15am and continues all day until 7.30pm. Entry to the general enclosure beside the Suspension Bridge is £2. 4,000 people are expected to attend the event.
