£3m of Classic Car Sales at Coys Spring Classics Auction

Aston Martin DBS

International auctioneers Coys achieved outstanding results of some £3 million in sales at their Spring Classics auction in London on March 10th.

One of the star lots of the auction was the last original Aston Martin DBS (top) to come off the production line, which was found in a barn in Surrey, and sold for £43,240.

The car had been sitting in a barn since 1980 and was discovered by Chris Routledge, the Managing Partner of the auction house, who said: "A great ending to a fantastic story. The car has been sold to an Aston Martin collector who was so excited about having the opportunity to restore the very last production DBS that he almost started to do the work in the auction room."

Other important cars auctioned included a 1923 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost (£158,600), a 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 RS Lightweight (£157,480), a 1935 Rolls-Royce 20/25 3-Position Drophead Coupe by HJ Mulliner (£147,400) and a 1959 Maserati OSCA Tipo 'J' Formula Junior (£147,400).

1967 Maserati Quattroporte

Routledge said: “It was a very successful evening at Coys Spring Classics auction despite some commentary that the historic car market is changing. Needless to say we work very hard and closely with our vendors to ensure they understand the importance of honest and sensible reserve prices on their cars. The results speak for themselves. Sensible reserves equal sold motorcars – it is not rocket science!”

Coys Spring Classics also featured a 1967 Maserati Quattroporte (above), formerly the property of Princess Aly Khan, latterly known as Lady Camrose. The car, which recently visited its original home at Eaton Square, sold for £45,480.

Other highlights of the classic car auction included a 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1.5 Roadster (£122,760), a 1955 Bentley R –Type Drophead Coupe by Park Ward (£110,440), a 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL (£107,080) and a 1971 Aston Martin DBS V8 (88,040).

Coys next auctions are ‘Techno Classica’ in Essen, Germany, on April 18th and ‘Ascot Racecourse’ in Ascot, United Kingdom, on 16th May.
